1960s Aussie Big Lap
It’s now 50 years since my first outback adventure. A 16,618 mile (26,744 km) Big Lap of Oz in 1966-67. Just a child it gave me a love for the bush I have never lost. The vehicle, a stock standard 1962 EK Holden station wagon towing a 15’ Viscount Ambassador Caravan. After 13 tyres, 950 gallons of petrol and only minor repairs there were no major breakdowns. "The trip was hampered by cyclones, extreme heat (no aircon in those days!) major floods and plenty of bull dust. I am digitalising hundreds of slides from the trip and will post interesting and some very extraordinary ones on this page over weeks to come."
