Towing Safety
It's not 'Rocket Science' but you need to know the basics. Towing is very different from everyday driving, it requires additional driving skills and safety precautions.
Know your equipment - You should be familiar with your vehicle and trailer or van. Make sure your vehicle is up to the challenge and do your checks before starting out.
Weight distribution - Make sure you have sufficient weight over the tow bar.
Use your mirrors - Spacial awareness and the carriage of your load are essential for safety . You need to know when your being overtaken.
Braking - Use your van or trailer brakes on steep downhills and to steady the load in sway situations.
Power Out - Never break heavily on steep downhills or in sway situations
Tyre Pressure - Under-inflated tyres are deadly.
Learn to reverse - If your not comfortable reversing your rig you should not be towing.
Run wide on corners - Swiping a tree or other vehicle can be costly
leave room - Judge the traffic and allow plenty of time to stop in an emergency
If your not comfortable with all of the above seek help. Do a training course for our sake not just yours.
