Knowledge and Expertise

Resident Historian and Resident Expert: Murray S Upton

OverOz proudly acknowledges and thanks Murray Upton for sharing his extensive knowledge, expertise, assistance and records. Murray, a well known entomologist, has been travelling the length and breadth of Australia for over 70 years, both with his work researching insects and for pleasure as an outback adventurer. Murray’s expertise extends far beyond his scientific endeavours. His knowledge of Australiana and the Outback is unrivalled. No one knows this country or how to see the best of it more so than Murray.

Murray’s father, Sydney Upton, was also an avid fan of the Australian outback, having explored and surveyed the Lake Eyre region by camel in the early 1900’s.

As a family business, OverOz has acquired project management, driving, towing and photography skills from Murray, not to mention a wealth of knowledge. Being a proficient bush mechanic and having practiced recovery skills, a must for safely traversing remote parts of Australia, there is no better exponent or teacher than Murray.

OverOz is currently planning another expedition with Murray to isolated parts of the Nullarbor, to relive a family tour of 1967 and retrace some of Murray’s work adventures of 1968 and 1969. This time chasing tektites rather than insects.
