DARGO HOTEL - High Country Fun

For many Victorians, Dargo nestled in the foothills of the legendary Dargo High Plains, is the gateway to the Alpine National Park, Avon Wilderness Park and Mitchell River National Park. For us adventurers, it was the end of an epic 4WD trip across the Australian Alps.

The ‘Dargo Hotel’ was a welcoming site and welcome us they did. A warm fire, cold drinks and wholesome, hearty meals were just the start. There is a choice between indoor and outdoor dining and there is also a great beer garden. A decent wine selection was on offer and much to the glee of the QLDer nearing hypothermia was the Bundy on tap! Much time was spent exploring the interesting memorabilia displayed throughout the pub.

The hotel establishment backs onto the Dargo River where campers and fishers are welcome to camp within the grounds. A range of other accommodation options are available. There are 2 bunk rooms catering for up to 7 or 10 people each. The 4 cosy log cabins cater for 7 or 8 each. Motel rooms are also offered just a short walk through the walnut trees lining the main street. Then there is 'Grandma’s House' a delightful cottage for groups of up to 20.

No trip to the Victorian High Country would be complete without a visit to the iconic Dargo Hotel.
