1960s Big Lap. - Coolgardie, Kalgoorlie

16,618 miles in an unbreakable 1962 EK Holden towing a 15' Viscount Van with Mum, Dad and three little ones on board. The trip was hampered by cyclones, extreme heat (no aircon in those days!) major floods and plenty of bull dust.

Heading back East through Coolgardie, which was just about a ghost town, we found some interesting relics to explore.

Then onto the mining town of Kalgoorlie. Due to rains, the Nullarbor was now impassable for trucks and semi-trailers, many were being loaded on the Trans-Continental train in Kalgoorlie to avoid the long wait. The family enjoyed a drink from the Paddy Hannan Fountain before heading for the rain soaked Nullarbor.
