In Search of Our Waddi - Awesome Camps.
This one is for the Ladies or those daunted by the vast inland region. My wife, Therese had some trepidation about spending over a month in the deserts of Outback and Central Australia as we went in search of ‘Our Waddi Tree’. I assured her it would be ‘desert by day and oasis by night’.
So, my new mission was to find perfect campsites to ensure we totally enjoyed our ‘Chandelier of Stars’ on a nightly basis. For us we love the water, fishing and swimming, so we went in search of rivers, creeks, dams and waterholes. It should be no problem in our deserts! Some of our intel came from past experience, internet research and camping books and apps, however our best finds came from word of mouth along the way. For the most part we bush camped as we are completely ‘off grid’. Occasionally we punctuated the bush camps with some pampering at designated caravan and camp sites and the odd pub camp. It was with thanks to the people we met at these sites and pubs who shared their knowledge that lead us to some of our greatest finds. For the purpose of this mission I classified a good country pub as a ‘water hole’ or at least ‘watering hole’. More on that next week.
Here are just some of the most awesome outback camps you can imagine and most are hidden away in the deserts.
Many thanks to ‘Road Tech Marine’ RTM for making this dream a reality and also the fantastic assistance from ‘HL Landscapes’.
